One of the worst fears of anyone who owns an internet-enabled device is someone else having access to it without us knowing—especially it's an iPhone. Let’s be honest; there is so much going on in an iPhone—you have your bank account logged in, your social media channels logged in, you might even have work and business-related files and documents.

Not to forget, you also have your private conversations and media that you wouldn’t want to share with many people. Any of this landing into the wrong hands could mean irrecoverable damage.

Yet, phones and devices get hacked into every single day. Have you ever had those moments when someone borrowed your phone to make a call, and the next thing you know, people are reporting things happening from your account that you have no recollection of? If you haven’t, maybe it’s time to make sure it remains that way by making sure you’re following security best practices.

However, in any case, it’s worth running a check to make sure.

How to tell if someone else’s face is enrolled with your face ID?

Some security applications give you the option of having more than one face ID enrolled simultaneously. Face ID is one of Apple’s best features for iPhones, letting you unlock your phones quickly and efficiently by just pointing the front camera at your face.

However, even the Face ID feature is just about as secure as your passcode. If a thirdparty knows your passcode, they can easily add their face to your devices and easily unlock and use it when you’re not around.

But, how can you tell if there’s another face ID that is enrolled with yours? Let’s go over that:

Go to settings and then find face ID& passcode. Now, you’ll be asked to enter your passcode. Now, if you can see an option to set up an alternate appearance, you’re good. This option being visible means that you only have one face ID enrolled.

In case this option is not visible, this means that there are already two face IDs enrolled. If this isn’t something you’ve set up, you can opt to reset your face ID and set up your face ID again.

To make sure that your iPhone is extra secure, its best to also change your passcode along with your face ID so in case someone had access to that, they will no longer be able to use it.

To do this, you can easily go to settings and then Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode and then select change passcode. It’s a simple and effective way to add an extra layer to your security.

That being said, even though you can always reset your face ID, its almost impossible to know who’s face ID was set up as the secondary one.

This is because that face isn’t stored. The only existence of that face is a digital representation that is stored on Apple’s secure Enclave chip.

How to secure your iPhone

Someone borrowing your cell phone to plant an alternative face ID unlock is a question that depends on making sure that your phone is never in the hands of people you don’t trust.

However, there are other ways of having hackers, sniffers and other cybercriminals get into your phone. The most common of which is the fact that you’re not safe when browsing online. Advertising companies, corporates, product teams, agencies, law enforcement agencies, the ISPs and even third-party trackers can tell exactly what you’re doing online.

This tracking is then used by advertisers to boost their marketing efforts. Hackers and sniffers can easily sell your information to third-party companies for hundreds of dollars.

The best way to protect yourself against online information tracking is to use a VPN for iOS. This little tool will let you connect to the internet through a remote and secure server, letting you temporarily borrow the IP address of the remote server.

This will let you browse anonymously and privately, while also letting you access geo-blocked content by helping you bypass geographical restrictions on websites, content and platforms. Not only that, a good VPN will even let you stream and browse faster by letting you get around internet issues like ISP throttling.
